About this course

MEng Hons in Engineering with Placement Year, an engineering degree exploring fundamental multidisciplinary principles across chemical, mechanical, electrical and electronic systems. Core topics include Programming, Embedded Systems, Control Systems, and Mathematical Modelling. The five-year course features a shared first year with all school students before specialisation, a mandatory industrial placement year in the fourth year, and an industry-linked project alongside a comprehensive individual research project in the final year. The first year covers core principles and mathematical techniques through compulsory modules such as Applied Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Skills, Engineering Systems, Engineering Thermofluids, and Fundamental Engineering Mathematics. In the second and fifth years, students follow specific departmental specialisms involving dedicated module paths and group project work. The fourth year consists of a graduate-level industry placement where students work in a professional role and complete an extended reflective piece. Final-year studies combine specialist technical modules with individual research and industry-linked projects designed to prepare students for professional engineering practice.
