About this course
BA Hons in English Language and Linguistics (Study Abroad), an English Language and Linguistics degree focusing on structural analysis, phonetic principles, and cognitive language study. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, Research Methods, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The course features an integrated third year spent studying at an international partner university abroad. The first year establishes core foundations through modules such as English across Space and Time, English in Use, Foundations of Language, Language in Mind and Society, and Linguistic Inquiry and Applications. The second year advances into specialized topics with English Grammar, English Phonetics, Sounds of the World's Languages, and Structures of the World's Languages. Optional modules across the degree allow students to explore diverse areas such as Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, corpus analysis, forensic linguistics, and psycholinguistics. In the final year, students complete core advanced study in Language and Social Identities alongside Phonetic and Phonological Theory, with the option to undertake an independent Linguistics and English Language Dissertation.
