About this course

BA Hons in English Language (Study Abroad), an undergraduate degree in English Language and Linguistics, examines the evolution, structure, and global use of the English language. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, Research Methods, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The third year includes an international study placement at a partner university abroad. The first year introduces foundational elements through core modules such as English across Space and Time, English in Use, Foundations of Language, and Linguistic Inquiry and Applications. The second year focuses on data-driven approaches and grammar with compulsory studies including Corpus Linguistics, Language and Society in a Data-Driven World, English Grammar, and English Phonetics. The third year consists of Your Year Abroad. The final year deepens knowledge through core modules like Language and Social Identities and Language Variation and Change in English.
