About this course

BSc Hons in Environmental Science, an environmental science degree centred on natural systems, earth processes and sustainability challenges. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Environmental Analysis, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. The programme spans three years, featuring an independent final-year dissertation project supported by academic staff. The first year covers core scientific foundations through Atmosphere, Weather and Climate, Biodiversity and Global Change, Introduction to Practical Environmental Science, Foundation Skills for LEC, Geology, and Catchment Science. The second year progresses to advanced concepts with compulsory modules including Atmospheric Science, Environmental Data Analysis and Visualisation, Environmental Field Skills, Hydrology and Water Quality, and Soil Science, alongside optional choices such as Ecology and Conservation and Glaciology. In the final year, students complete a dissertation and select from optional modules covering climate change, pollution management, geological hazards, energy transitions, sustainable agriculture, and water resources management.
