About this course
BSc Hons in Environmental Science (Placement Year), an environmental science degree focused on natural systems, climate dynamics, and ecological processes. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Environmental Analysis, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Entrepreneurship. This four-year course includes a dedicated third-year industry placement and concludes with an independent dissertation project. The first year establishes fundamental concepts through compulsory modules such as Atmosphere, Weather and Climate, Biodiversity and Global Change, Introduction to Practical Environmental Science, Foundation Skills for LEC, Geology, and Catchment Science. The second year advances core knowledge with compulsory modules including Atmospheric Science, Environmental Data Analysis and Visualisation, Environmental Field Skills, Hydrology and Water Quality, and Soil Science, alongside optional modules in Ecology and Conservation and Glaciology. The third year is spent on a professional placement.
