About this course

BA Hons in Film and Creative Writing (Study Abroad), a Creative Writing BA (Hons) and Film Studies degree centred on the theory and practice of storytelling across screen and page. Core topics include Research Methods, Project Management, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Social & Cultural Analysis, Global & Comparative Perspective. The third year involves studying abroad at an international partner university, and the fourth year culminates in an independent self-directed project. The first year introduces foundational principles through Introduction to Film Studies and Introduction to Creative Writing. The second year expands technical and artistic abilities with Global Cinemas, Developing Your Writing Practice, and Writing Fiction. Optional modules across the degree allow students to explore diverse areas such as Screenwriting, Classic Hollywood Genres, Writing Poetry, Playwriting, Short Film Production, American Literature, Global Film Genres, Documentary Production, Film Circulation, Exhibition and Audiences, and Experimental Film Production. The fourth year features compulsory advanced study in Writing Beyond the Text alongside the Independent Project (Film, English, Creative Writing and Media).
