About this course

BA Hons in Film and English Literature (Study Abroad), an English Literature and Film Studies degree centred on the critical study of cinematic storytelling alongside textual analysis and creative production. Core topics include Research Methods, Project Management, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Social & Cultural Analysis, and Global & Comparative Perspective. The programme incorporates a third-year international placement at an overseas partner institution and culminates in a self-directed final-year independent research project. The first year introduces foundational approaches through compulsory modules like Introduction to Film Studies, Literature in Time, Global Cinemas, and Literary Adaptation. Students also complete Critical Practice, alongside optional choices covering various media, literary traditions, and screenwriting. The final year features core study in Contemporary Literature and the Independent Project (Film, English, Creative Writing and Media). Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as documentary production, global film genres, romanticism, and specific literary figures including Austen and the Brontës.
