About this course
BA Hons in Film Studies (Study Abroad), a film studies degree centred on historical, theoretical, and practical approaches to cinema. Core topics include Research Methods, Project Management, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Design & Creative Practice, Social & Cultural Analysis, Global & Comparative Perspective. Students spend the third year studying abroad at an international partner university and complete an independent research project in the final year. The first year introduces foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Introduction to Film Studies, Understanding Media and Culture, and British Cinema, alongside optional modules covering topics like digital media and performance. The second year expands into international contexts with compulsory modules including Global Cinemas and Classic Hollywood Genres, while offering optional modules in areas such as screenwriting and film theory. The final year centres on an Independent Project (Film, English, Creative Writing and Media), complemented by optional modules exploring documentary production, experimental film, and media futures.
