About this course

BA Hons in Geography and Economics (Placement Year), an economics and geography degree centred on human and physical geographical processes alongside micro- and macroeconomic theory. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Policy Analysis, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Entrepreneurship. Students complete an integrated industry placement year in their third year to gain professional experience before returning for final-year studies. The first year covers core foundations through Global Human Geography, Society and Place, Foundations of Macroeconomics, Foundations of Microeconomics, Foundation Skills for LEC, and Introducing Research in Geography. The second year progresses to advanced concepts through Environmental Geography, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics, and Political and Economic Geography, alongside optional modules covering areas such as Economic Inequality, Environmental Economics, Geographical Data Science, Geography, Development and the Majority World, Foundations of Econometrics with Professional Development, Sustainable Hebrides: Field Course, and Cultural and Social Geography. The fourth year features compulsory modules including Current Issues in Economics and Writing Geography and Economics.
