About this course

MSci Hons in Geography, a geography degree centred on human, physical, and environmental geographical systems. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Environmental Analysis, Communication & Writing, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Entrepreneurship, and Human Behaviour. The four-year programme incorporates independent research projects in both the third and final years, with the opportunity to collaborate with a regional organisation for project work. The first year introduces foundational concepts through compulsory modules including Foundation Skills for LEC, Global Human Geography, Introducing Research in Geography, and Reading the Landscape, alongside optional study in areas such as Atmosphere, Weather and Climate. The second year builds competence in technical and practical methods via modules like Geographical Data Science, Living with the Landscape, and Physical Geography in Practice, supported by choices including Glaciology and Soil Science. The third year centres on a compulsory Dissertation alongside advanced optional modules covering specialized topics such as Climate Change, Political Ecology, and Geological Hazards. The final year focuses on Master’s-level study and features a major MSci Dissertation supervised by an active researcher, alongside optional modules like Geoinformatics, Catchment Science and Management, and Environmental Impact Assessment.
