About this course

BA Hons in History, a history degree centred on the study of past societies, global change, and human culture. Core topics include Data Analysis, Research Methods, Historical Research, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. Students benefit from access to specialist archive resources and opportunities for placements in heritage organisations. The first year covers foundational training through modules such as Handling Historical Evidence, Medieval and Early Modern Worlds, Revolutions in History, Controversy in History, and Modern Worlds. The second year examines major transformations through Who Makes History?, War and Transformation, and Human and Environment. In the final year, students complete a compulsory History Dissertation alongside core study in The Use and Abuse of History. Across the course, optional modules allow students to explore diverse periods and themes, ranging from political history and conflict to culture and environment, complemented by optional discovery modules spanning interdisciplinary topics.
