Entry requirements
A level: BBB. We recommend that this includes Geography, or alternatively you should have one of the following subjects: Classics, Economics, English Literature, History, Philosophy, Psychology, Religious Studies, and Sociology. IB: 30 points overall with 15 points from the best 3 HL subjects including Geography or alternative cognate subject at HL grade 6
About this course
BA Hons in Human Geography, a geography degree centred on social sciences, spatial relationships, and environmental interactions. Core topics include Data Analysis, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Entrepreneurship, and Design & Creative Practice. Students undertake an independent dissertation project in the final year, with opportunities to complete this in collaboration with a regional organisation such as Lancaster City Council for real-world experience. The first year introduces foundational themes through compulsory modules such as Foundation Skills for LEC, Global Human Geography, Introducing Research in Geography, and Society and Place. The second year builds upon these concepts with core studies in Cultural and Social Geography, Geographical Data Science, Geography, Development and the Majority World, Human Geography in Practice, and Political and Economic Geography. In the third year, students complete a compulsory Dissertation module alongside advanced optional study. Optional modules span various specialised areas including urban challenges, health geographies, political ecology, and energy transitions, as well as residential field courses.
