About this course

MSci Hons in Mathematics (Study Abroad), a mathematics degree centred on quantitative and analytical methods. Core topics include Programming, Statistics, Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, and Research Methods. The course includes a dedicated third year spent studying abroad at an international partner university, followed by a major final-year research project supervised by an active researcher or completed through an industry collaboration. The first year establishes core foundations through modules such as Logic and Discrete Mathematics, Symmetry and Sequences, Matrices and Calculus, and Probability and Statistics, alongside optional choices in computing and physics. The second year advances mathematical theory through Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, Multivariate Probability and Statistics, and Project Skills, with further options in algebra, data science, and artificial intelligence. After returning from the international placement in the third year, the fourth year allows students to tailor their studies by selecting from a wide variety of advanced optional modules covering specialized areas like cryptography, geometry, and statistics. The final master's-level year features a significant individual project alongside advanced options including Galois Theory, Advanced Statistical Modelling, and Deep Learning.
