About this course
MSci Hons in Mathematics with Computer Science (Study Abroad), a mathematics and computer science degree centred on mathematical and computational approaches to both disciplines. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, and Control Systems. The five-year programme includes an integrated year spent studying abroad at an approved international partner university, and culminates in a final-year dissertation or project. The first year covers core foundations through modules such as Fundamentals of Computer Science, Logic and Discrete Mathematics, Matrices and Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Software Development, and Symmetry and Sequences. Year 2 introduces further compulsory study in Linear Algebra, Project Skills, and Secure Data and Systems, alongside optional modules covering topics like Abstract Algebra, Applied Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Complex Analysis, Extended Reality, Internet Applications, Mathematics of Artificial Intelligence, Multivariate Probability and Statistics, and Real Analysis. Year 3 is spent abroad at a partner institution. Returning for Year 4, students choose from a broad selection of advanced options spanning Commutative Algebra, Dynamic Modelling, Environmental Statistics, Graph Theory and Algorithms, Hilbert Spaces, Knots and Geometry, Linear Systems, Machine Learning, Mathematical Cryptography, Mathematical Finance, Mathematics of Generative Modelling, Medical Statistics, Metric Spaces and Topology, Statistical Inference, Stochastic Processes, Statistical Learning and Prediction, Advanced Programming, Computer Vision, Digital Health, Secure Distributed Systems, Languages and Compilation, Natural Language Processing, Quantum Computing, Secure Artificial Intelligence, and Secure Cyber Physical Systems. The final fifth year comprises core advanced research methods alongside a dissertation or a combination of project and placement, supplemented by optional choices including Advanced Statistical Modelling, Clinical Trials, Combinatorics, Computing and Algorithms for Statistics, Deep Learning, Epidemiology and Disease Modelling, Estimation and Inference, Galois Theory, Hidden-Process Models, Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, Measure and Integration, Operators and Spectral Theory, Probability Theory, Stochastic Calculus for Finance, Survival and Longitudinal Statistics, and Number Theory.
