About this course

BSc Hons in Mathematics with Economics, a mathematics and economics degree centred on mathematical and computational approaches to economic theory and quantitative systems. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Policy Analysis, Human Behaviour, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The three-year degree is jointly delivered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Economics. The first year covers core foundations through Matrices and Calculus, Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, and Probability and Statistics, alongside optional choices such as Logic and Discrete Mathematics or Mathematical Modelling and Programming. The second year progresses with compulsory modules including Applied Data Science, Linear Algebra, Microeconomic Analysis, and Multivariate Probability and Statistics, while introducing optional topics like Games and Strategic Behaviour and Mathematics of Artificial Intelligence. The final year centres on advanced core study through Statistical Inference, supported by extensive optional modules spanning Behavioural Economics, Econometrics and Data Science in Economics, International Trade and Business, and Statistical Learning and Prediction.
