About this course
MEng Hons in Mechanical Engineering, a mechanical engineering degree centred on mathematical and computational approaches to physical theory. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Embedded Systems, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Project Management, Engineering Design, Entrepreneurship, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The first year is shared across all engineering programmes, providing a common foundation before branching into mechanical specialisms. The first year covers the foundations through Engineering Science, Engineering Skills, and Engineering Systems, focusing on core physical principles and practical component design. The second year builds mechanical expertise through Control and Robotics, Engineering Mechanics, Machine Design, and Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer. The third year advances into complex applications via Computer Aided Engineering, Dynamic Systems, Product Design, and a collaborative Engineering Project. The final year features an Individual Project and Industrial Consultancy, alongside optional modules such as Control and Machine Learning, Hydrogen Technologies and Fuel Cells, Mechatronics and Control Engineering, Nuclear Fuels Engineering, Nuclear Fusion, and Renewable Energy Systems.
