About this course

BEng Hons in Mechanical Engineering with Placement Year, a mechanical engineering degree centred on the analysis, design and manufacture of mechanical systems and devices. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Embedded Systems, Control Systems, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, Engineering Design, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Entrepreneurship. The four-year programme features a shared foundation year across engineering disciplines, followed by an industry placement year in the third year and a substantial individual project in the final year. The first year covers core principles through Applied Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Skills, Engineering Systems, Engineering Thermofluids, and Fundamental Engineering Mathematics. Year 2 introduces mechanical specialisms with modules such as Control and Robotics, Engineering Materials, Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics and Mass Transfer, Machine Design, and Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer. Year 3 consists of a graduate-level industry placement. The final year focuses on advanced technical and management capabilities through Computer Aided Engineering, Dynamic Systems, Engineering Management and Entrepreneurship, Individual Project, and Product Design.
