About this course

MEng Hons in Mechatronic Engineering, an engineering and robotics engineering degree focused on the integration of mechanical, electronic and computing disciplines for modern automated systems. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Microelectronics, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Project Management, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Entrepreneurship, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The four-year programme features a shared foundational first year across all engineering branches, lab-based practical sessions, a multidisciplinary group engineering project, an industry-linked team consultancy project, and an individual research project in the final year. The first year covers fundamental mathematical methods, engineering science, engineering skills, engineering systems, and engineering thermofluids. The second year introduces specialist mechatronic concepts through Control and Robotics, Digital Electronics and Software, Electrical Circuits and Analogue Electronics, Engineering Mechanics, Machine Design, and Power Engineering. The third year advances into Dynamic Systems, Engineering Management and Entrepreneurship, Engineering Project, and Mechatronic Systems and Automation, alongside optional modules such as Digital Signal Processing and Power Electronics and Applications. The final year comprises core studies in Control and Machine Learning, Individual Project, Industrial Consultancy, and Mechatronics and Control Engineering, with further optional modules including Advanced Embedded Systems and Electric Vehicles.
