About this course
MEng Hons in Mechatronic Engineering with Placement Year, an engineering degree centred on mechanical, electronic and computer engineering to build automated systems and robotics. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Microelectronics, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Project Management, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Entrepreneurship, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The first year is shared across all engineering specialisations, and the course includes an integrated year-long industry placement. The first year covers core principles and mathematics through Applied Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Skills, Engineering Systems, Engineering Thermofluids, and Fundamental Engineering Mathematics. Year 2 introduces specialist topics with Control and Robotics, Digital Electronics and Software, Electrical Circuits and Analogue Electronics, Engineering Mechanics, Machine Design, and Power Engineering. Year 3 advances technical knowledge through Dynamic Systems, Engineering Management and Entrepreneurship, Engineering Project, and Mechatronic Systems and Automation, alongside optional choices such as Digital Signal Processing and Power Electronics and Applications. Year 4 consists of a professional placement year in industry. The final year concludes with advanced study through Control and Machine Learning, Individual Project, Industrial Consultancy, and Mechatronics and Control Engineering, with further optional modules including Advanced Embedded Systems and Electric Vehicles.
