About this course

BSc Hons in Neuroscience (Placement Year), a biomedical science degree centred on the study of the nervous system and its role in human behaviour and brain disorders. Core topics include Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Psychological Assessment, Historical Research, Critical & Analytical Thinking, Human Behaviour, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students complete a professional placement year working in a graduate-level role between the second and final years. The first year covers core foundations through Anatomy and Physiology, Cognitive and Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Neuropsychology, Foundations of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Science, Genetics and Biotechnology, and Introduction to Biosciences. The second year progresses to Cognitive Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, Drug Design and Development, Fundamentals of Neuroscience, Molecular Genetics, and Pharmacology. The final year includes compulsory study in Advanced Neuroscience - Circuits and Systems, Biosciences Research Project, Global Health Challenges, and The Lying Brain: the Neuroscience of Hallucinations, Delusions, and Disorders of Consciousness. Students can also select from optional modules such as Advanced Drug Design and Development and Cognition: From Laboratory Research to Everyday Behaviour, alongside completing an independent research project.
