About this course
BEng Hons in Nuclear Engineering, a chemical engineering degree centred on the design, application and maintenance of nuclear energy systems and processes. Core topics include Programming, Systems Design, Circuit Design, Embedded Systems, Control Systems, Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, Engineering Design, and Entrepreneurship. The three-year curriculum begins with a shared foundation year alongside other engineering disciplines before moving into dedicated nuclear modules and a substantial final-year individual project. The first year covers fundamental mathematical techniques and physical principles through compulsory modules such as Applied Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Skills, Engineering Systems, Engineering Thermofluids, and Fundamental Engineering Mathematics. Year 2 introduces subject-specific focus via modules including Engineering Materials, Fluid Mechanics and Mass Transfer, Nuclear Decommissioning and Disposal, Nuclear Engineering, Power Engineering, and Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer. The final year involves advanced study and practical application through Engineering Management and Entrepreneurship, Individual Project, Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Monitoring and Protection, and Power Electronics and Applications.
