About this course
BA Hons in Philosophy and Politics (Study Abroad) is an undergraduate degree spanning the disciplines of Politics and International Relations and Philosophy. Core topics include Critical & Analytical Thinking, Historical Research, Policy Analysis, Research Methods, Social & Cultural Analysis, Statistics, Global & Comparative Perspective, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The programme includes a compulsory third year spent studying abroad at an international partner university. Throughout the first year, students establish foundational knowledge through core modules such as Knowledge and Reality in a Complex World, Ethics: How Should I Live?, Political Philosophy: How Should we Live Together?, Parties, Populism and Protest, and Political Theory for a Troubled World. The second year advances investigative and analytical capabilities via core studies including Philosophy Guided Project, Theories of Power and the State, and Understanding Political Research. Students can also select from various optional modules across the first two years, such as History of Philosophy: Ideas that Shaped the West, Global Challenges in World Politics, Applied Philosophy: Decisions that Change the World, and Democracy, Dictatorship and Everything in Between. In the final year, students examine advanced theoretical concepts through compulsory modules like Critical Political Theory and Comparative Political Philosophy. Optional modules in the final year allow for specialized study in areas such as Parliamentary Studies, Democray Under Pressure, and Europe and America, alongside independent research options including the Philosophy Independent Project and the Politics and International Relations Dissertation.
