About this course

BSc Hons in Physics, a physics degree focused on foundational and applied physical sciences. Core topics include Programming, Microelectronics, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Laboratory Techniques, Project Management, Communication & Writing, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. The first year is shared across all single-honours physics routes, and students can choose between an industrial group project or a physics group project in the final year. The first year covers core subjects through modules such as The Physical Universe, Fields, Matter and Quantum Physics, Experimental Physics, Physics Skills, Mathematical Skills 1, and Mathematical Skills 2. The second year advances into Electromagnetism, Waves and Optics, Experimental Labs, Mathematical Techniques in Physics, Physics Modelling Project, Properties of Matter, and Quantum Mechanics and Atomic Physics. In the final year, students complete mandatory studies including Industrial Group Project, Physics Group Project, Problem Solving and Sustainability, and Relativity, Nuclear and Particle Physics. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as Condensed Matter Physics, Cosmology, Foundations of Quantum Technology, Further Particle Physics, Low Temperature & Semiconductor Laboratory, Space Physics, and Teaching, Outreach and Public Engagement.
