About this course

MPhys Hons in Physics with Astrophysics, a physics degree centred on astronomical phenomena and fundamental physical theory. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Laboratory Techniques, Communication & Writing, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The four-year degree begins with a shared first year common across all single-honours physics schemes, and includes a final-year individual project. The first year covers core foundations through modules such as The Physical Universe, Fields, Matter and Quantum Physics, Physics Skills, Experimental Physics, Mathematical Skills 1, and Mathematical Skills 2. The second year progresses with Stellar and Nebular Astrophysics, Electromagnetism, Waves and Optics, Mathematical Techniques in Physics, Physics Modelling Project, Properties of Matter, and Quantum Mechanics and Atomic Physics. Year 3 involves Astrophysical Data Lab, Astrophysics Group Project, Cosmology, Space Physics, Problem Solving and Sustainability, and Relativity, Nuclear and Particle Physics. The final year concludes with advanced study through Astrophysical Plasmas and Galaxies, General Relativity, Numerical Methods and Data Analysis, and Year 4 Physics Project.
