About this course

MPhys Hons in Physics with Astrophysics (Study Abroad), a physics and physics with astrophysics degree focused on the study of the universe through observational and theoretical methods. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Laboratory Techniques, Communication & Writing, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The five-year programme includes an approved international study placement during the third year and concludes with an individually supervised research project in the final year. The first year establishes fundamental concepts through modules such as The Physical Universe, Fields, Matter and Quantum Physics, and Mathematical Skills 1, while the second year introduces specialized topics through Stellar and Nebular Astrophysics, Electromagnetism, Waves and Optics, and Physics Modelling Project. The fourth year expands into advanced concepts with modules including Astrophysical Data Lab, Astrophysics Group Project, Cosmology, and Space Physics. The final year involves high-level study supported by modules such as Astrophysical Plasmas and Galaxies, General Relativity, Numerical Methods and Data Analysis, and Year 4 Physics Project.
