About this course

BSc Hons in Sports and Exercise Science, a sport and exercise science degree examining human movement, physical performance, and physiological function. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Research Methods, Critical & Analytical Thinking, and Ethics & Professional Practice. Delivered within a medical school setting, the course utilises specialist facilities including a human performance laboratory, a human biomechanics laboratory, and the Health Innovation Campus. During the first year, students build foundational understanding through Anatomy and Biomechanics: Foundations of Movement, Fuel For Life: Nutrition Science, Innovations in Exercise Assessment and Prescription, Professional Practice: Academic Skill Development, Physiology and Metabolism Unlocked, and Sports and Exercise Psychology: Powerhouse Principles. The second year advances these concepts via Advanced Biomechanics: Optimising Human Potential, Breaking Boundaries: Debates Shaping Sports and Exercise Science, Conquer the Data: Research Methods and Statistics, Molecules to Muscles: Integrative Human Physiology, Sports and Exercise Medicine: Patient to Performer, and Sports and Exercise Psychology: The Embodied, Embedded and Extended Performer. In the final year, students complete a compulsory research project titled Cutting-Edge Science: Research Dissertation in Sports and Exercise Science alongside Engaging the Public: Power in Science Communication. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as applied biomechanics, performance psychology, environmental physiology, elite performance strategies, and health outcome transformation.
