About this course
BSc Hons Theoretical Physics (Study Abroad), a physics degree centred on mathematical and computational approaches to physical theory. Core topics include Programming, Microelectronics, Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Laboratory Techniques, Communication & Writing, Critical & Analytical Thinking. Students spend the third year studying abroad at an approved international partner university. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Experimental Physics, Fields, Matter and Quantum Physics, Mathematical Skills 1, and Physics Skills. The second year progresses into more advanced theoretical and computational methods with modules including Electromagnetism, Waves and Optics, Mathematical Techniques in Physics, Mechanics, Variations and Symmetry, and Physics Modelling Project. The final year involves core study in areas like Field Theory in Quantum Mechanics, Problem Solving and Sustainability, Relativity, Nuclear and Particle Physics, and a Theoretical Physics Group Project. Students can also tailor their studies in the final year by choosing from optional modules such as Condensed Matter Physics, Cosmology, Foundations of Quantum Technology, Further Particle Physics, Space Physics, and Teaching, Outreach and Public Engagement.
