About this course

BSc Hons in Zoology, a zoology degree exploring animal biology, ecosystems, and evolutionary processes. Core topics include Programming, Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, Fieldwork, Environmental Analysis, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. Students undertake practical work through laboratory sessions and field trips to locations such as the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Bowland Fells, and Cornwall. The first year establishes core foundations through Biodiversity and Global Change, Ecology Field and Data Skills, Evolutionary Biology, and Foundation Skills for LEC, alongside two optional modules in subjects like ecology or genetics. The second year advances core knowledge through Biological Research Design and Delivery, Ecology Field Skills, Evolution, and Vertebrate Biology, complemented by two optional modules. The final year centres on an independent Dissertation research project, supported by a wide range of optional modules covering advanced topics such as animal behaviour, bioinformatics, conservation science, and tropical ecology.
