About this course
MArch, MEng in Architecture (Industrial), an architecture and civil engineering degree focused on integrated professional training. Core topics include Engineering Design, Project Management, and Research Methods. This six-year programme leads to professional qualifications to Masters level across three disciplines, removing the need for further academic study to achieve chartered status. The first year covers foundational concepts through Architecture and Sustainability, Structural Analysis and Design, and Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 1, alongside practical work in Integrated Design Project 1 (including Design Studio 1). The second year introduces Water Engineering and Geotechnics, Architectural History and Theory 2, and Building Physics 1: Fundamental Principles, complemented by Design Studio 2. The third year advances knowledge with Architectural History and Theory 3, Building Physics 2: Services Design, and the Individual Research Project 1, alongside Design Studio 3.1 and Design Studio 3.2. Year 5 involves Sustainable Cities, Building Physics 3, and Law, Practice & Project Management, paired with Design Studio 4.1 and Design Studio 4.2. The final year concludes with the Architecture Dissertation and Procurement and Risk Management, alongside Design Studio 5, with optional modules allowing specialisation in areas such as Low Energy Building Systems and Advanced Construction Issues.
