About this course
The MArch, MEng in Architecture is a civil engineering and architecture degree focused on the integration of architectural design with structural engineering and building physics. Core topics include Engineering Design, Project Management, and Research Methods. This five-year integrated master's programme is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators, the Chartered Institution of Building Service Engineers, and the Architects Registration Board. The first year introduces foundational subjects through modules such as Architecture and Sustainability, Surveying, Construction Technology and Management, Structural Analysis and Design, Materials, Water and Soils, Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 1, and Integrated Design Project 1 including Design Studio 1. The second year continues with Water Engineering and Geotechnics, Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 2, Design Studio 2, Structural Design and Materials 1, Architectural History and Theory 2, and Building Physics 1: Fundamental Principles. The third year incorporates Structural Design and Materials 2, Design Studio 3.1, Design Studio 3.2, Individual Research Project 1, Architectural History and Theory 3, and Building Physics 2: Services Design. The fourth year covers Sustainable Cities, Law, Practice & Project Management, Building Physics 3, Design Studio 4.1, and Design Studio 4.2. The final year comprises Procurement and Risk Management, Architecture Dissertation, Design Studio 5, alongside optional choices including Low Energy Building Systems and Advanced Construction Issues.
