About this course
MBiol, BSc in Biological Sciences (Biotechnology with Enterprise), a biosciences degree spanning molecular life sciences and commercial enterprise. Core topics include Data Analysis, Research Methods, and Entrepreneurship. Students can complete an integrated masters with an additional year of advanced research training, or apply for an optional industry placement year accredited by the Royal Society of Biology. The first year covers core biosciences and business foundations through modules such as Introductory Skills in the Molecular Biosciences, The Basis of Life, Starting Your Own Business, and Introduction to Genetics. The second year progresses to intermediate techniques and enterprise planning via Omics and Big Data Biology, New Enterprise Planning, and Food Security and Sustainability, alongside optional choices in small business management and innovation. The third year involves research preparation and enterprise consultancy through modules like Research Tools and Applications, Advanced Skills in the Biological Sciences, and Enterprise Consultancy, complemented by advanced optional topics. The final fourth year is dedicated to an Extended Research Project alongside advanced biomolecular and medical modules.
