About this course

BSc in Biological Sciences, a biological sciences degree focusing on cellular and molecular mechanisms. Core topics include Data Analysis and Research Methods. The course offers an optional year in industry leading to an accredited degree variant, and students may convert the three-year programme into an integrated Masters subject to academic performance. The first year builds foundational knowledge through compulsory modules such as Introductory Skills in the Molecular Biosciences, Introductory Skills in Microbiology, The Basis of Life, Introduction to Microbiology, Introduction to Genetics, and Introduction to Immunology, alongside optional choices including Short Introduction to Human Body Systems, The Diversity of Life, and Living Planet. Subsequent years allow students to select from an extensive range of optional modules covering topics such as Intermediate Skills in the Molecular Biosciences, Omics and Big Data Biology, Medical Microbiology, Molecular Virology, Bioinformatics for Biologists, and Fundamentals of Cell and Cancer Biology. In the final year, students can pursue specialised advanced modules like Advanced Topics in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Cancer Biology, and Advanced Topics in Human Genetics and Epigenetics, alongside independent investigation through the Molecular and Cellular Biology Research Project.
