About this course
MBiol, BSc in Biological Sciences, a biological sciences degree focusing on the molecular and cellular foundations of living organisms. Core topics include Data Analysis, Research Methods. The integrated Masters structure provides an additional year of specialist training incorporating an extended research project. Students may also apply for the three-year BSc route with the possibility of transferring to the MBiol variant. The first year establishes fundamental knowledge through modules such as The Basis of Life, Introduction to Genetics, The Diversity of Life, and Living Planet. The second year progresses to intermediate principles via Omics and Big Data Biology, Medical Microbiology, Molecular Pharmacology, and Fundamentals of Cell and Cancer Biology. The third year advances into complex studies through Advanced Skills in the Biosciences, Advanced Topics in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Stem cells, and Synthetic biology. The fourth and final year centres on the Extended Research Project, with optional modules available in Advanced Biomolecular Technologies, Advanced Immunology, Medical Diagnostics, and High-Throughput Technologies.
