About this course
BSc in Chemistry, a chemistry degree centred on the fundamental concepts of the field and practical laboratory experience. Core topics include Data Analysis and Research Methods. The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry and includes options for industrial work placement, study abroad, or transferring to an integrated Masters at the end of the second year. The first year establishes core foundations through compulsory modules such as Introduction to Modern Chemistry, Chemistry and Chemists for a Sustainable Future, Introduction to Practical Chemistry and Research Skills, and Chemistry in Action: Atoms, Molecules, Matter. The second year progresses into advanced laboratory techniques and theoretical concepts via Organic Chemistry: Structure, Reactions and the Science of Life, Molecules, Energy, Quanta and Change, Practical, Professional and Research Skills for Chemists, and Chemistry of Materials: What They Are and How We Know. The final year involves practical investigations and a compulsory BSc Research Project, complemented by optional modules covering areas such as Extended Topics in Inorganic and Materials Chemistry, Big Data, Big Science, and Chemistry into Schools.
