About this course
MChem, BSc in Chemistry with Artificial Intelligence, a chemistry degree centred on digital and automated chemistry approaches to industrially-relevant challenges. Core topics include Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Practical work features heavily, providing access to specialist teaching laboratories and research facilities with automated reactors and liquid handling robotics. The first year covers core subjects through Introduction to Modern Chemistry, Chemistry in Action: Atoms, Molecules, Matter, Fundamental Organic Chemistry for Biology and Synthesis, and Chemistry of the Material World. The second year progresses into Organic Chemistry: Structure, Reactions and the Science of Life, Molecules, Energy, Quanta and Change, Chemistry of Materials: What They Are and How We Know, Organometallics: From Bonding to Catalysis, and Molecular Signatures: Spectroscopy and Chromatography. The third year centres on Project and Research Skills alongside optional study in inorganic, materials, organic, bioorganic, interdisciplinary, physical, theoretical, and environmental chemistry. The fourth year concludes with Advanced Topics in Chemistry and Advanced Practical, Professional and Research Skills for Chemists.
