About this course
MChem, BSc in Chemistry with Artificial Intelligence (with Industrial Experience), a chemistry degree focused on the integration of chemical science with digital and automated computational techniques. Core topics include Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students complete a paid industrial placement year during the programme. The first year covers foundational concepts through compulsory modules such as Introduction to Modern Chemistry, Chemistry in Action: Atoms, Molecules, Matter, Fundamental Organic Chemistry for Biology and Synthesis, Chemistry of the Material World, Professional Skills for Chemistry with AI, and Introduction to Practical Chemistry and Research Skills, alongside optional choices like Mathematics for Scientists and Artificial Intelligence for Scientists. The second year advances core knowledge through Organic Chemistry: Structure, Reactions and the Science of Life, Molecules, Energy, Quanta and Change, Chemistry of Materials: What They Are and How We Know, Organometallics: From Bonding to Catalysis, and Molecular Signatures: Spectroscopy and Chromatography. The third year consists of the Industrial Experience Year. The fourth year features Project and Research Skills, alongside optional modules spanning Topics in Inorganic and Materials Chemistry, Topics in Organic, Bioorganic and Interdisciplinary Chemistry, and Extended Topics in Physical, Theoretical and Environmental Chemistry. The fifth and final year concludes the curriculum with Advanced Topics in Chemistry and Advanced Practical, Professional and Research Skills for Chemists.
