About this course
The MEng, BEng in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Industrial) is a civil engineering degree addressing the design and operation of infrastructure alongside environmental protection. Core topics include Engineering Design and Research Methods. The five-year programme includes an industrial placement year and professional accreditation by the Joint Board of Moderators. The first year builds fundamental competencies through modules such as Architecture and Sustainability, Structural Analysis and Design, Materials, Water and Soils, and Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 1. The second year expands technical proficiency with compulsory study in Water Engineering and Geotechnics, Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 2, Integrated Design Project 2, and Structural Design and Materials 1, alongside optional choices like Transport Planning and Modelling 1 and Highway Engineering. The third year advances core concepts through modules including Water Engineering and Geotechnics 2, Structural Design and Materials 2, Wastewater Engineering, and Individual Research Project 1. The final year involves advanced specialisation with compulsory modules such as Individual Research Project 2 and Integrated Design Project 4, and options spanning Solid waste management, Advanced Steel and Composite Design, and Water Resource Management.
