About this course

MEng, BEng in Civil and Environmental Engineering, a civil engineering degree focusing on infrastructure design, environmental protection and sustainable development. Core topics include Research Methods and Engineering Design. Accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators, the course shares a common first year across all civil engineering programmes and grants access to specialist laboratories and a design studio. The first year covers core engineering principles through Architecture and Sustainability, Structural Analysis and Design, Materials, Water and Soils, and Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 1. The second year introduces further technical study via Water Engineering and Geotechnics, Structural Design and Materials 1, and Sustainable Engineering Solutions, alongside optional subjects like Transport Planning and Modelling 1 and Highway Engineering. The third year advances into specialised topics such as Wastewater Engineering, Environmental Health Engineering in Developing Countries, and an Individual Research Project 1. The fourth year concludes the integrated masters study with an Individual Research Project 2, Integrated Design Project 4, and optional modules including Advanced Steel and Composite Design, Water Resource Management, and Design and Management of Structures in Earthquake Zones.
