About this course
BEng in Civil and Structural Engineering (Industrial), a civil engineering degree focused on the analysis, design and management of infrastructure and the built environment. Core topics include Engineering Design and Research Methods. This JBM-accredited course includes a paid industrial placement year and features a shared first year across School degrees. The first year covers core foundations through Architecture and Sustainability, Structural Analysis and Design, and Materials, Water and Soils alongside Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 1. Year two advances technical knowledge through Water Engineering and Geotechnics, Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 2, and Structural Design and Materials 1, with optional choices such as Highway Engineering and Sustainable Engineering Solutions. The final fourth year deepens expertise via Water Engineering and Geotechnics 2, Structural Design and Materials 2, and Integrated Design Project 3, alongside elective modules like Wastewater Engineering and Computational Methods for Civil Engineering. Students complete an extended Individual Research Project 1 in the final year. Optional modules across intermediate and final stages allow students to pursue specialised topics such as Transport Planning and Modelling and Building Physics.
