About this course
MEng, BEng in Civil Engineering, a civil engineering degree focusing on the design and management of infrastructure within the built environment. Core topics include Research Methods and Engineering Design. Accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators, the course shares a common first year across all civil engineering programmes and incorporates laboratory practicals, design studio work, and fieldwork opportunities. The first year covers core subjects through Architecture and Sustainability, Surveying, Construction Technology and Management, Structural Analysis and Design, Materials, Water and Soils, and Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 1. The second year introduces Water Engineering and Geotechnics, Engineering Mathematics and Modelling 2, Structural Design and Materials 1, and Highway Engineering, with optional modules such as Transport Planning and Modelling 1 and Sustainable Engineering Solutions. The third year involves Water Engineering and Geotechnics 2, Structural Design and Materials 2, Wastewater Engineering, and an Individual Research Project 1, alongside options like Computational Methods for Civil Engineering and Engineering Geology. The fourth year features an Individual Research Project 2 and Integrated Design Project 4, with optional study in areas such as Advanced Concrete Design – MEng, Geotechnical Engineering, and Water Resource Management.
