About this course
MEng, BEng in Mechanical Engineering, a mechanical engineering degree focused on the design, production, and operation of machinery. Core topics include Engineering Design. The course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and incorporates hands-on project work involving the design, manufacture, assembly, and testing of mechanical devices. The first year covers core subjects such as Computers in Engineering Analysis, Design and Manufacture 1, Thermofluids 1, Solid Mechanics, Engineering Materials, and Engineering Mathematics. The second year progresses to topics like Engineering Mechanics, Vibration and Control, Design and Manufacture 2, Economics and Management, Mechatronics and Measurement Systems, and Thermofluids 2. The third year introduces an Individual Engineering Project alongside advanced subjects such as Additive Manufacturing, Computational Fluid and Structural Mechanics, Biomedical Engineering Design, Automotive Propulsion Systems, Robotics and Machine Intelligence, Vehicle Design and Analysis, and Thermofluids 3. The fourth and final year features a team project as well as specialized study in areas including Electric and Hybrid Drivetrain Engineering, Automotive Chassis Engineering, Engineering Computational Methods, Energy Systems, Policy and Economics for Engineers, Fundamentals of Tribology, Surface Engineering and Coatings, Biomaterials, Functional Joint Replacement Technology, Aerospace Structures, Aerospace Systems Engineering, Rotary Wing Aircraft, and Design Optimisation.
