About this course
BEng in Medical Engineering, a biomedical engineering degree centred on the application of engineering principles to healthcare and medical technology. Core topics include Engineering Design. This three-year undergraduate programme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Throughout the degree, students build a strong technical foundation across multiple years of study. The first year covers Computers in Engineering Analysis, Design and Manufacture 1, Thermofluids 1, Solid Mechanics, Engineering Materials, and Engineering Mathematics. The second year progresses to Engineering Mechanics, Vibration and Control, Design and Manufacture 2, Economics and Management, Mechatronics and Measurement Systems, and Thermofluids 2. The final year involves advanced study and practical work through the Individual Engineering Project, Finite element analysis of musculoskeletal joints, Assistive Robotic Exoskeletons, Fem-Tech: transforming the future of women, Surgical-Tech Lab: Developing Soft Sensing Technologies, Biomedical Engineering Design, Structure, Function and Repair of the Body, Additive Manufacturing, and Computational Fluid and Structural Mechanics.
