About this course
BEng in Medical Engineering (Industrial), a biomedical engineering degree centred on medical device design and production. Core topics include Engineering Design. The course includes a paid industrial placement year and is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The first year covers core subjects such as Computers in Engineering Analysis, Design and Manufacture 1, Thermofluids 1, and Engineering Mathematics. The second year progresses through Engineering Mechanics, Vibration and Control, Design and Manufacture 2, and Mechatronics and Measurement Systems. The final year involves compulsory study in modules such as Individual Engineering Project, Finite element analysis of musculoskeletal joints, Assistive Robotic Exoskeletons, and Biomedical Engineering Design.
