About this course

BA in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, a humanities degree centred on Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies and English Literature, American Studies and Creative Writing. The course includes a compulsory year abroad in a Spanish- or Portuguese-speaking country and a final-year project. The first year introduces foundational themes through compulsory modules such as Upper Intermediate Spanish (B2), Researching Spanish and Latin American Studies and Introduction to Brazil, Portugal and Portuguese Speaking Africa. The second year builds proficiency with Practical Language Skills in Spanish 2, Portuguese Language Skills and Culture and Society in the Portuguese-Speaking World. The third year is spent on an integrated year abroad. The fourth year concludes the degree with advanced study including the Final Year Project, Practical Language Skills in Spanish 3 and Advanced Portuguese Language. Optional modules across the degree allow students to examine topics such as cinema, history, translation, politics and urban cultures.
