About this course
BEng (Hons) in Biomedical Engineering, a biomedical engineering degree centred on the application of engineering practices and life science principles to healthcare challenges. Core topics include Programming, Computer Architecture, Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Project Management, Engineering Design, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Students complete an individual research project in the final year under academic supervision. The first year covers the foundations through Design and Make Project 1, Chemical Engineering Science, Mathematical Methods in Bioengineering, and Introductory Materials Science. The second year focuses on Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Design and Make Project 2, Bioengineering Thermofluids, and Data Analysis and Modelling. The third year comprises compulsory modules such as Bioengineering Individual Project, Biomedical Component Design, Additive for Healthcare and Innovation, and Project Management. Optional modules allow specialisation in areas such as Biochemical Engineering, Bioelectricity and Biophotonics Engineering, Body Composition and Physiological Measurement, Machine Learning and AI for Engineering, Horizon Technologies for Sport and Health, Biomaterials 2 (Biomaterials for Drug Delivery), and Regenerative Medicine.
