About this course

BEng (Hons) in Biomedical Materials, a materials degree focused on the application of engineering and material science within the biomedical sector. Core topics include Data Analysis, Mathematical Modelling, Engineering Design, and Entrepreneurship. Students can complete this four-year programme with an integrated industrial placement year. The first year establishes core engineering and scientific foundations through modules such as Mathematics for Materials, Thermofluids, Experimentation and Practical Skills, and Introductory Materials Science. The second year introduces specialized concepts with compulsory study in Anatomy & Physiology 1, Data Analysis and Modelling, Group Design Project, and Biomaterials 1 (Biomaterials for Tissue Engineering). The third year focuses on advanced applications and research through modules including Nanomaterials, Project, Biomedical Component Design, and Biomaterials 2 (Biomaterials for Drug Delivery). Optional modules in the final teaching block allow students to explore topics such as Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Composite Materials, and Functional Materials.
