About this course
MEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering, a chemical engineering degree centred on the research, design and operation of chemical and biochemical processes. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematical Modelling, Research Methods, Project Management, Engineering Design, Entrepreneurship, and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. The programme is accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers to fully meet educational requirements for Chartered Engineer status, and includes options for a year-long professional placement. The first year covers core scientific foundations through modules such as Chemical Engineering Science, Engineering Principles and Design, Process Balances, Thermofluids, Transfer Processes, and Mathematical Methods in Chemical Engineering. The second year progresses to Chemical Engineering Separations, Process Safety and Control, Process Simulation and Design, Data Analysis and Modelling, Advanced Thermodynamics & Reaction Engineering, and Advanced Fluid Mechanics and Particle Technology. The third year introduces Process Integration, Chemical Process Control, Advanced Transfer Processes, Reaction Engineering II, Environmental Protection and Pollution Control, Individual Process Design Project, and Team Process Design Project. Optional modules in the third year allow study in areas such as Digital Organisations, AI and Society, Circular Economy, Biochemical Engineering, Project Management, and Data Analysis. The final year includes compulsory study in Professional Development Project and Advanced Process Design and Optimisation, alongside optional modules like Bioprocess Engineering, Colloid Science with Applications in Drug Delivery, Clean Energy, Materials and Sustainability, and Technological Entrepreneurship.
