About this course
BSc (Hons) in Chemistry, a chemistry degree exploring chemical science and its applications within the physical sciences. Core topics include Programming, Laboratory Techniques, Communication & Writing. The course offers a four-year structure featuring an optional professional placement year. The first year builds fundamental competence through Laboratory and Computer Skills 1, Fundamental Synthetic Chemistry, and Spectroscopy and Analysis 1, alongside thermodynamics and structural reactivity. The second year expands into structural characterisation, advanced thermodynamics and kinetics, and further topics utilizing python programming and computing skills. The final year focuses on advanced concepts through modules such as Modern Aspects of Organic Chemistry, Current Trends in Inorganic Chemistry, and Science Communication, supported by optional modules like Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis. Students also undertake investigative projects to develop independent research methods and literature assessment capabilities.
