About this course
BSc (Hons) in Human Biology, a human biology degree centred on the study of the structure and function of the human body, human evolution, and lifespan development. Core topics include Data Analysis, Statistics, Laboratory Techniques, Research Methods, and Critical & Analytical Thinking. Students can choose between a three-year full-time route or a four-year full-time option incorporating a professional placement year or study abroad. The first year covers foundational concepts through Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Human Evolution and Adaptation, Laboratory Skills 1, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Academic Skills and Data Description. The second year introduces Human Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, Research Methods: Data Analysis, Genomics, Growth Development and Ageing, and Physiology of Exercise and Training, alongside optional modules such as Interdisciplinary Science, Laboratory Skills II, Psychology and Health, and Cellular Signalling and Transport. In the final year, students complete a compulsory Project and can select from numerous optional modules spanning Body Composition and Physiological Measurement, Physiology of Exercise and Health, Sport and Exercise Nutrition, Applied Physiology of Sport Performance, Public and Global Health, Human Performance at Environmental Extremes, Cellular Adaptation and Degeneration, Applied Genomics, Infectious Diseases in Humans, Cancer Biology, and University wide language programme.
