About this course

BA (Hons) in Industrial Design, an engineering and fashion design degree centred on the development and creation of manufactured products through applied techniques and creative exploration. Core topics include Research Methods, Project Management, Engineering Design, Communication & Writing, and Design & Creative Practice. The course is available as a four-year option including a professional placement year or as a three-year full-time study route. The first year establishes core competencies through compulsory modules such as Prototyping for Design, Design Foundations 1, Research for Design 1, Designing Interactions, and Design Foundations 2. The second year extends professional capabilities with compulsory modules including Design Communication, Research for Design 2, Design for Rapid Manufacture, Shaping Technologies, and New Product Development for Industrial Design, alongside optional choices spanning arts management, placemaking, and generative AI. The final year focuses on practical industry engagement through compulsory modules such as Live Projects and the IDMP Industrial Design Major Project, supplemented by optional modules covering computer-aided modelling, automated manufacturing, and inclusive design.
